If you are like us, you are already looking ahead to warmer weather ahead. One of our favorite times of year to spend a vacation getaway is during Spring Break. This is a popular time to visit Galveston as kids are off from school and the temps are beginning to warm up across the state. Take a look at why you will want to spend Spring Break in Galveston:
Time to Hit the Beach
Whenever you think of Spring Break, you will most likely think of sunny skies and sandy beaches. That is exactly what you will find here in Galveston for a wonderful vacation getaway. Galveston features 32 miles of beaches that string along the Gulf of Mexico coastline. You will find clean pristine beaches at popular spots such as Stewart Beach and East Beach. You will find East Beach at the easternmost part of Galveston Island. Here, you will have access to a boardwalk, pavilion, and entertainment stage that is sure to have plenty of performances over Spring Break. You will also find a children’s playground perfect for the little ones. Chair and umbrella rentals are available so you can leave everything at home. This is also one of the few beaches that permits alcohol on the beach in case you were wishing you had an adult beverage in hand. Stewart Beach has similar amenities and has been voted as a top family friendly beach park. Babe’s Beach is another local beach that has the clearest water that sparkles in the sun. By the end of March, you will find the Gulf water to be warm enough for swimming. Make sure to pack everything you need for a beach day including sandals, swimming clothes, sunscreen, and shades. All Galveston beaches will open up their amenities this year starting on March 9th, just in time for your Spring Break in the area.
Sandcastle Lessons
One of the most popular activities that you can enjoy here in Galveston is sandcastle lessons. Galveston is home to some professional sandcastle builders that will be on hand to help you create a masterpiece in the sand. This year there will be free sandcastle lessons just in time for Spring Break taking place on March 9th and 16th. You will find lessons at several times each day with lessons offered at 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 3:00 PM. If your Spring Break does not line up with these lessons, fret not, as lessons will be available every Saturday from Memorial Day and Labor Day perfect for a summer visit. The lessons are located over at East Beach and provide some supplies but having your own buckets and shovels is highly encouraged. Come have fun in the sand!
Visit the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier
Spring Break is a perfect time to visit some of the best attractions here in the area. There is nothing more famous in Galveston than our very own Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier. You will find family oriented attractions for a thrilling day out on the pier. Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier features many different rides and is one of the few locations with rides that will take you over the water. Board the Texas Flyer to be spun high up in the area or take on the Iron Shark for a thrilling roller coaster. There are even rides for younger children including the Texas Tea cups or Pier Pileup Bumper Cars. You will also find a variety of midway style games where you can earn fun prizes. Games include classic favorites ring toss, balloon pop, basketball hoops, and more. The fun doesn’t stop there either as you can also find 5D theater showings.
