There’s never a bad time of year to add a trip to Galveston to your itinerary. However, a closer look at the area’s climate and weather trends can help you customize your stay according to your travel plans and the outdoor fun you hope to enjoy!
Overall Climate
Galveston is categorized as a destination that enjoys a humid, subtropical climate. This means visitors can count on hot summers and mild winters. The rainiest time of year in Galveston is typically June to November, and it’s rare to encounter any freezing temperatures or snowfall here.
Visit Between October and November
Many travelers point to October and November as ideal months for making the most of time enjoyed in Galveston. This is when temperatures are warm without the high humidity and prices across the board are relatively reasonable too. You can still enjoy time on the sand, but tours and visiting historic landmarks are great as well thanks to fewer crowds. Some of the top events in the area to attend this time of year include Island Oktoberfest in October, and Dickens on the Strand in November.
Enjoy a December through February Visit
Guests who head to Galveston between December and February can leave thoughts of cold and snow behind and focus on mild temperatures in the 60s instead. While many summer attractions shut down this time of year, the shorelines are open for strolling and the restaurants are ready for business. Galveston Restaurant Week happens every January and Mardi Gras comes to town in February.
Make It an Early Spring Trip
If your vacation time falls in early spring, you’re in for a treat. This time of year sees lows in the 60s and highs in the 80s giving you the best of both worlds for outdoor adventure. The annual bird migration happens here in April which is inspiring to behold but you do want to make sure you’re well aware that the area opens up for college spring break this time of year too.
May to September Fun
Summer in Galveston sees temperatures rise into the upper 80s and the beaches boom to life in sunny style. It’s a top time of year for just about every area attraction imaginable and if you’re traveling with little ones, keep in mind that the Grand Kids Festival happens in May. There’s also the AIA Sandcastle Competition to look forward to in August.

Owning a vacation rental is an exciting business endeavor. Knowing you’re helping travelers make lifelong memories is priceless! When you’re looking to make your property even more bookable in a competitive marketplace, you don’t have to overhaul everything to stand out. The following are five small touches you can implement that can make a huge impact when it comes to your occupancy year-round and your overall profit in the long run.
Keep It Light and Bright
One of the most important aspects of marketing any rental to guests is to make sure you have the property looking as light, inviting, and bright as possible. Fortunately, this is also one of the easiest and quickest upgrades to vest in as well. While ideally, your vacation rental home would be packed with floor-to-ceiling windows that highlight a great view for guests and promote the best light flow too, it’s not necessary to invest in brand new window options if this isn’t the case. Instead, get strategic with your interior lighting fixtures and add large and well-placed lamps throughout the home. Taking time to consider how to brighten up each space is a sure way to make marketing photos of your place pop while offering guests access to a more welcoming experience. As a benefit, choosing decorative floor lamps doubles as its own unique furnishing item in addition to enhancing the room’s brightness.
Emphasize Quality Linens and Comforters
Even those guests who book your vacation rental with every intention of spending as much time as possible out exploring the area will eventually return and need to rest up. That’s where investing in quality linens, a great mattress, and eye-catching comforters can make all the difference. Resting well is important any time you travel, but for guests in your vacation home, their restful experiences could make or break their feelings about their stay and the review they leave for others as well. You don’t have to overhaul the entire master suite to make an impact. Investing in a name-brand mattress is simple and something you can emphasize in your marketing push as well. The same goes for bathroom essentials and sheets. Instead of redoing the entire space, make it a priority to use resort-style towels so you can let guests know that the best is waiting for them on arrival. Using sheets similar to what they would find in a five-star hotel sets your home apart without breaking the bank.
Take Time to Consider Curb Appeal
It’s fair to say that guests are often drawn to vacation rentals with outdoor features like pools, hot tubs, fire pits, sprawling yards and more. However, there are small things you can do to improve curb appeal and make your home more bookable without having to go to such large measures. One of them is a fresh coat of paint. Making sure your house is on point when it comes to an inviting exterior hue can make all the difference. To make your home stand out, consider adding a front door in a bright and bold color that really stands out from the rest of the home. It’s a small change that can make a big, aesthetic impact and catch a prospective guest’s eye.
Upgrade Important Appliances
In any home, the kitchen tends to be the heartbeat where delicious food is cooked, and family and friends gather to dine and socialize. The same typically goes in a vacation home which makes keeping the culinary spaces in your rental at their best. If you can’t invest in making sure all of the appliances are state-of-the-art, start with the essentials to grab guest attention. It could be something as simple as swapping out the old oven for a stainless steel version or adding a more efficient dishwasher that better accommodates guests and keeps them coming back for more.
Consider Allowing Guests to Stay with Pets
This can feel like a big deal if you’re worried about potential damages, but these days, allowing guests to stay in your vacation rental with their pet can increase your occupancy numbers significantly. More than ever, travelers are hitting the road and skies with pets and service animals alike. Opening up your home as a place where pet-friendly stays are welcomed can provide you with new business opportunities. If you do, consider including some pet treats or a pet toy in your welcome package and the animal lover who books with you is sure to be thrilled.

The theater is proud to offer six classical and contemporary works throughout the year. One of the larger theater companies that perform in Houston is the A.D. Players. They’ve been delighting audiences in Texas since 1967 and offer five mainstage shows and four children’s theater productions annually. Both Main Street Theater and Stages Repertory Theatre are well worth checking out when you’re in the Houston area and looking for amazing entertainment options too!
Day 4: Infuse Space and History into Your Stay

Looking for efficient routes to keeping your Texas vacation rental booked year-round is important in reaching our business goals. The following are five things you can do that are sure to elevate your business while providing guests with top-tier experiences as well.
Edit Your Listings Regularly to Fit the Season and Local Events
Your vacation rental in Texas sits in a location that’s brimming over with activities and attractions for travelers to enjoy year-round. The only thing is, they might not know that right away unless you make the effort to let them know just how conveniently located your property is. Updating your property listings regularly to match both seasonal and annual events in the area is vital to keeping your vacation home booked year-round. Travelers head to Texas at different times of the year for different reasons and filling up those reservations means anticipating why they’re heading this way and what they might need in advance. Update your property listing to include just how close your home is to entertainment venues, holiday events, or places that are ideal for enjoying depending on the time of year they arrive. This lets travelers know you’re committed to a customized stay and understand the area’s appeal no matter when they arrive.
Invest in the Extras That Make All the Difference
In such a dynamic vacation rental market, Texas property owners are going to need to really showcase something “extra” to grab the attention of guests year-round. Oftentimes, this means making an investment in features and amenities that go above and beyond with the assurance that the subsequent bookings will cover the cost in the long run. This could be investing in fun details like pools and hot tubs or creating a luxurious outdoor space with a fire pit for guests to enjoy as a group of family or friends during their stay. Smart features are a big draw to travelers year-round whether this applies to televisions, home security, or overall entertainment options like sound systems and appliances. The idea is to make your vacation rental an oasis of fun that’s just as appealing to your guests as time spent out exploring! That means you don’t want to shy away from options like including a Netflix subscription use into a stay or building a game room complete with a pinball machine or pool table. The details truly stand out in a competitive market.
Be Sure to Market to Business Travelers Too
It’s easy to assume that those who are booking stays in your property are in town for the vacation fun exclusively. These days, that’s just not the case and for rental homeowners, this can be a huge draw year-round. More than ever, business travelers and remote working employees are hitting the road and taking their responsibilities to new destinations. This is a huge opportunity to market your rental to those who are looking to work and play during their stay. Highlight high-speed internet or the inclusion of Wi-Fi in your property to let business travelers know they’ll have everything they need to get the job done well no matter when they arrive. The inclusion of an office in your Texas rental can be a big draw for those who are working remotely and don’t forget to mention that having a full kitchen in your home means they can customize those lunch and snack breaks according to taste.
Include Helpful Planning Resources
When your guests know that you’re an area expert, they’re sure to return time and again. Keeping your property booked year-round could come down to something as simple as placing a book of local suggestions, stops, and activities in the entryway for visitors to enjoy and browse upon arrival. If you’re not up for creating a tangible resource like this, be sure that you provide options for accessing a concierge-style team that can help customize their stay and keep them coming back for more! There’s a good chance you’re excited about the city you host a vacation rental in, so there’s no reason to keep that to yourself. Enthusiasm is contagious and offering up insightful information on stops, eateries, and events is a good way to create a more personalized experience from start to finish.
Take Time to Price Competitively
The vacation rental market in Texas is always fluctuating and staying ahead of the pricing curve is a great strategy for attracting visitors year-round. You’ll need to make adjustments according to high travel season and off-season numbers, but things can change monthly, weekly, or daily too. Keeping up with those changes and making sure your property is priced competitively is going to provide an appealing option for guests. It’s also good to consider offering deals from time to time and even reducing minimum night requirements when other properties in the area might be doing the opposite.

Enjoy a Weekend Adventure Pass
One of the top attractions in Galveston is Pleasure Pier that is located right on the water. Each weekend, visitors can purchase a Weekend Adventure pass that allows you to enjoy attractions such as the Pleasure Pier, Kemah Boardwalk, and Downtown Aquarium Houston from Friday to Sunday of the weekend of your pass. This allows you unlimited entry into all three attractions for one great price. Memorial Day Weekend takes this special day one step further by allowing it to also be used on Memorial Day for a total of a four-day weekend! This means the amusement park rides at Pleasure Pier are fair game. Enjoy rides such as the Iron Shark Rollercoaster, Texas Star Flyer, Galaxy Wheel, Pirate’s Plunge, and many more. Or try out the 5D theater ride that includes a trip down to the Mysterious Underworld this Memorial Day holiday. Pleasure Pier also features their own personal midway arcade with games such as whack-a-mole, balloon pop, and other amusement park games. And that is just one attraction available on the weekend pass!
Kemah Boardwalk is found just north of Galveston and is a quick drive away. This is another great amusement park found right by the water. This family friendly entertainment complex includes more retro rides, including a two-story carousel and wooden rollercoaster. The property also includes a boardwalk where you can walk alongside the water for beautiful views and a small aquarium. Speaking of aquariums, the Downtown Aquarium Houston is the final stop with your Weekend Adventure Pass and just 30 miles north of Kemah. This is a huge aquarium filled with all kinds of fun. You will find giant habitats that include incredible underwater critters such as sharks, rays, sea turtles, and many more. The aquarium also has a variety of rides along with a stingray reef where you can pet and feed the stingrays. Downtown Aquarium Houston also features a loveable tiger that is viewable from its comfortable exhibit. There is so much to see and do when you purchase a Weekend Adventure Pass for Memorial Day Weekend!
Memorial Day Weekend Cruise In
Another great event taking place Memorial Day Weekend is the Memorial Day Weekend Cruise In, a classic car show like no other.
